Like in many other cities, e.g. Hamburg or Cologne, the City Tax will be introduced in Berlin as well. Taxes of five per cent of the net price will be charged from the beginning of January 2015, while it is irrelevant if leisure travelers stay in Hotels, Serviced Apartments or in a Youth Hostel. Business travelers who can prove the purpose of their journey in written form will be excluded from the tax. With the introduction of the City tax in Berlin the government is hoping for an additional revenue of 25 million per year.
